Athletics

Known as the Cougars, Cardigan athletic teams foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and School pride. We support multiple teams in 17 sports to meet the interests and develop the skills of all Cardigan student-athletes. Every boy has the opportunity to play, learn, and have fun.

We believe in the benefits of the multi-sport athlete, while at the same time supporting skill development for the student in his core sport. Students may also choose to participate in noncompetitive activities in order to develop fitness and physical skills in the pursuit of a well-rounded education in mind, body, and spirit.

Our coaches teach the value of teamwork, fair play, and hard work. A healthy athletic environment is inclusive, that every member of a team is equally important, and that the athletic experience should be fun for all players, coaches, and spectators.

Sportsmanship

At Cardigan, we believe sportsmanship is an essential component of interscholastic athletics. Our student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans demonstrate sportsmanship by following the Cardigan Core Values of compassion, integrity, respect, and courage. We encourage all participants to enthusiastically support their team, recognize outstanding performance of opponents, and always exhibit good sportsmanship in their words and actions.

Johnson-Wakely Fitness Center

Built in 2013, the beautiful Johnson-Wakely Fitness Center is a modern athletic training facility featuring the latest technology in fitness equipment, cardiovascular training equipment, and free weights.

One of things we know is that middle school boys need to be active, so part of their education is athletic education. A lot of the boys come with a sport of hockey or lacrosse or skiing that they feel is an important part of their identity. We want to honor that, and we want to do it the right way.
