Cardigan’s Model UN Club Goes to Dartmouth
Date: 04/12/2018

Model UN Club at DartmouthNine members of the Cardigan Model UN Club spent last weekend on the nearby Dartmouth College campus taking part in DartMUN 2018, the 13th Annual Dartmouth Model UN conference. Over 500 students from around the world challenged themselves to three days of invigorating debate, negotiation, and collaboration in advancing many of today’s political, economic, and cultural issues. Run by Dartmouth undergraduates, it offered our boys a tremendous opportunity to interact with Ivy League students.

At the opening ceremony Friday night, the boys were treated to a performance by one of Dartmouth’s talented a capella groups. Then, Dartmouth Professor Charles Wheelan opened the conference by stressing the importance of great people participating in the political process, and urged all the students to become involved.

The students then spent three days discussing issues ranging from drone warfare to the reorganization of a post-Brexit EU, crypto currencies, and the safety of migrant people in Africa. To add to a true UN experience, our boys tackled these issues from the perspective of Lithuania and Guinea. Additionally, they participated in crisis committees dealing with a future apocalyptic America and historical ancient Greece. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves, coming away with new skills, a greater understanding of the world, and some new friends from around the country!
