Varsity Hockey Loses Hard Fought Battle to Westminster
Date: 12/04/2018

Cardigan Varsity hockey traveled to Simsbury, Connecticut to face the Martlets of Westminster School. After a three hour bus ride the boys were ready for a battle. Right off the first faceoff, Westminster took the puck deep into the Cougar zone, applying a pressure Cardigan had not seen in a while.

Cardigan took the lead on a nice feed from Graydon Schweizer ‘19 to Rocco Pace ‘19. The Cougars kept the lead until late in the first.

The Martlets took the lead back half way through the third period. The Cougars were finishing a power play and applying pressure when a Martlet came out of the penalty box and lead the fast break. Westminster went up 2 to CMS 1.

On the same play, the Cougars took a penalty and ended up down a man. While the Cougar were serving their penalty, another penalty call was made making the Cougars down 3 Cardigan men to Westminster’s 5. During the power play, Westminster scored going up by two goals.

In an attempt at a come back, the Cougars pulled the goalie, applied pressure, and Otto Pitkanen ‘19 scored with five seconds left in the period, however, it was too little too late.

The Varsity Hockey team will take on Salisbury, next.
