Varsity Hockey Ends a Long Weekend of Competition with a Win
Date: 12/04/2018

Cardigan Varsity hockey completed their western Massachusetts trip in beautiful Sheffield. Berkshire School hosted the Cougar boys in their magnificent arena. Although coaches thought the Cougar players would be tired after three games in less than 24 hours, they were pleasantly surprised when the Cougars started the game strong and were able to build a 3-0 lead before the end of the first period.  Sam Sibold ‘19 with two tallies and Quinton Cepiel ‘19 scored for the Cougars.

The second period ended 0-0 mainly due to the good play of the Berkshire goalie as well as Cardigan’s own, Adam Becht ‘19, who held the fort while the Cougars were a little too involved in their offensive play.

In the third period, Cardigan came back strong, adding 2 more goals from Sibold and Otto Pitkanen ‘19. Becht was brilliant in the winning effort and earned his second shutout of the year.

After the game, Coach Turcotte stated, “It was a great weekend for the Cougars. We can say, after this weekend, the boys reached a level of play that has not been seen this year. Slowly, we are building our units and we can see a better flow in our transition.”

The Varsity hockey squad will benefit from a week without games by putting in a solid week of practice. The team believes there is always room for improvement and this week will be crucial for their preparation going into games against KUA and BCS, next week.
