In a game with a score more reminiscent of a football game, the Cardigan Thirds basketball team lost a tough one to the Wasps of Woodstock Middle School 22-17 on the road, Wednesday.

The Thirds basketball team continued to play hard on Saturday, beating a solid Hartford team 35-22. One of the highlights of the game was the Cougar’s defense, who only allowed 3 field goals in the first half. Fast breaks and great post play led to a 19-9 halftime lead.

The 3rds Basketball team earned a win against in-town rival Indian River, on Wednesday 48-27. The Tigers from IRS jumped out to an early 9-4 lead before the Cougars scored 17 unanswered points to end the first half up 21-9.

The Thirds basketball team lost to Hanover Rec Saturday, in their last game of the season. The game was even through four minutes of the first half, then Hanover took over. The Thirds team played their hardest against a well-trained squad from Woodstock, trying all the plays in their book but unable to break their 1-3-1 zone defense. The game came down not to shooting skill, but who had the smoothest running defensive machine, and Woodstock ran away with the score in the second half.

The Cougars came out strong against the Wild Cats from Cornish, setting and keeping the pace of the game from start to finish. A total of nine players were able to put up buckets, with Ben Fenner, Richard Yang and Jason Park in a three-way tie for most points scored. The Thirds squad came out strong against a well-matched team from Eaglebrook. Gabe Abdeen took honors as the highest scoring player, putting up a total of 11 points of the team's 42. Jason Park showed his offensive prowess in the paint, snatching rebounds and putting them up time and again. The Thirds team faced off in a fantastic matchup with the Hartford Hurricanes, taking a quick lead in the opening minutes of the game with early buckets from Jenson Smock and Taehoon Lee. The Hurricanes fought back, caught up, and maintained a lead of a few points up until the end of the game.

The CMS thirds basketball team lost a hard fought game to the Raiders of Lebanon, 32-29. The Cougars jumped out to a 12-4 lead at the end of the first period behind a strong performance by center Taehoon Lee.
