The Cardigan Varsity Baseball Team ended the season on a high note, beating a much-improved Eaglebrook team 8-4 on Saturday. The Brookies were a tough, talented bunch this time around and gave us all we could handle. The Varsity Baseball team lost to an excellent Newbridge Academy team 5-0 on Wednesday. Hailing from Nova Scotia, Newbridge features 8 players that are members of the Nova Scotia Provincial 17U team, and despite the score, the Cougars played hard and had one of their best defensive games yet.

Cougars Battle With Holderness Varsity, Come up Short 6-5
The Cougars played a tough opponent on the road Saturday and came up one run short in a 6-5 game at Holderness. The top of the first was the best inning for the boys, with TJ Zagarri and Mattie Grabmann earning walks, and Christian Moore knocking them in with a 2-run triple. Moore would later score on a line drive to center by Will Hindle that was deep enough to get the run in.

Cougars Win Lakes Region Tournament Opener 9-7
The Varsity Baseball team did something it's never done before on Wednesday, winning their first-round Lakes Region Varsity Tournament game against a hard-hitting and gritty Brewster Academy team 9-7. The Cardigan varsity baseball team took on a challenging opponent Saturday, the Lakes Region regular-season champion KUA Wildcats. Although they took the lead early and hit the ball hard, the Cougars fell to an excellent team 14-5.

Cougars Beat Tough Deerfield Team 10-5
Although it wasn't pretty at times, the varsity baseball team won their sixth straight game against a very strong Deerfield team 10-5 on Headmaster's Field in Deerfield, MA. Varsity Baseball Gets Convincing Win over Proctor
The varsity baseball team hosted Proctor Academy on Saturday and won convincingly 18-2 in a five-inning affair. TJ Zagarri, in his first career start went 4 1/3 innings, giving up only one hit and striking out eight. He brought a no-hitter into the fifth, but a bloop single ended the bid. After three lopsided games where the Cougars were averaging 18 runs a game, the bats came down to Earth on Wednesday. Although it was a tight battle, the boys came home with a hard-fought 4-3 win over an excellent Phillips Exeter team. The varsity baseball team continued their torrid offensive pace on Saturday, beating their rivals from Eaglebrook 17-2 in a game that was much more competitive than the score would indicate.

Cougars Beat Tilton 21-2 on the Road
Well, the weather hasn't been very cooperative for the varsity baseball team, but they took advantage of a clear and cold Friday to head to Tilton, and come away with a 21-2 win in five innings.

Cougars Drop Season Opener
The Cougars finally got outside to play baseball on Friday, and unfortunately, they were upended by a gritty Groton team 5-4. It's always an adjustment when the boys are able to get outside and play, and today costly errors combined with the Groton defense proved too much to overcome.
